Indian Summer - Brooks & Dunn

The recent cooling temperatures of fall that always accompany the end of September and first part of October are always bittersweet for me. I absolutely love the changing of the seasons, the changing of the leaves, the crisp air, the festivals that celebrate those changes, all of it. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of the winter, despite the fact that I do enjoy layered clothing. With that in mind, I always hope for an Indian summer, waiting to see if after we go through those awesome fall changes we'll get another couple weeks of warm summer weather before the cold hand of winter gets a grasp.

This song mentions a few of those feelings and changes, but more than anything it's a story. The title is really what ties it to my thinking here. It does cover one of the biggest fall anticipations for a lot of people: football. Being from the area of the country I am, football is a big, big deal, especially growing up in a town with a high school team that regularly makes it to the playoffs, if not the State Championship. Ronnie and Kix tell a story here about one of those football stars and the girl that falls for him, and they reminisce on the nostalgia of those times.
