Come Together - Godsmack

There are several incarnations of this song that I enjoy. The original Beatles' version is good, and I like the Aerosmith cover a lot, too. This is a cover I hadn't heard until today. I'm not a fan of Godsmack, but I may give them a listen. They're really tight, and the singer's voice fits the style very well. There really isn't a lot you could do in the way of changing this song to make it better. It's so concretely structured that if you change it, it doesn't work. Godsmack knows this and applies it, making very few changes, all while still making it their own.

The Lennon-McCartney credited song was inspired by Timothy Leary's run for the governor of California. Running against future President Ronald Reagan, Leary was sent to prison for possession of marijuana. Some think that each verse of the song is about a different Beatle, but that's just speculation. It was originally releaed on Abbey Road and hit the #1 spot on the charts in the US and #4 in the UK.
