I've been missing the nineties an awfully lot lately, and I can't believe that the decade I really grew up in has been, at its latest, gone for almost thirteen years. The first time I ever heard the tune of this song was on Weird Al's Bad Hair Day as "Syndicated Incorporated." I was pretty sheltered as far as music goes. It wasn't that my parents restricted what I listened to so much. I was just reluctant to go out and find new things. I grew up on country, and my belief that I shouldn't venture too far from it was a bit of a hindrance looking back. I eventually started moving toward classic rock, then blues, then jazz, then modern rock, and so on. That took a while, though.
Weird Al was one of the first artists to pull my attention in other directions. Having never heard many of his spoofs' source material, he introduced me to lots of popular melodies and styles. You can listen to Weird Al's take below. There's no official video, but the one this kid put together for a school project is pretty good. The original song was a #20 hit for Soul Asylum, also taking the #1 spot on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.
