Ballroom Blitz - Sweet

 [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzpWJx3I2DY]

"Ballroom Blitz" describes a pretty gnarly scene. Written by the team of Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, the song describes a specific, real life scene from the band's career. In 1973, the band were performing at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock, Scotland, and were driven offstage by a barrage of bottles. There's not a lot more information out there about what caused the bottle barrage, but I'm inclined to think it had something to do with their performance.

The Sweet were one of the world's first, major glam rock acts, paving the way for bands like Kiss and Twisted Sister. The group was formed in 1968 and had their first hit in 1971 with "Funny Funny." While a lot of groups have musicians that continue on their own after a parting of ways, The Sweet is the first band that I've heard of that had members continue on with their own versions of the group. Usually one member will take the moniker and run with it, but in this case, the different members had their own versions at different times.
