Gimme Some Lovin' - Spencer Davis Group

OK, I had no idea when I went looking into this that the original version was cut by this group. I thought they had done a cover of the song. Nope! It was written by Steve Winwood, Spencer Davis and Muff Winwood. I'm kind of playing it fast and loose with the word written there, too. The song took it's main riff from another song. The song they borrowed the main groove of the song from was "Ain't That a Lot of Love" by Homer Banks. It was released in 1966, the same year as the Spencer Davis Group's, uh, cover, came out.

It's not all that similar, especially since that signature organ part was added by Davis's group. It is still somewhat the same, though. I find that SDG's version is my least favorite. I even prefer the original Banks tune to it. Lots of people have covered the song, most notably for me, The Blues Brothers. I'll take a horn line over a Hammond B3 any day, and the Blues Brothers are often more closely associated with the song by a wider audience.
