Ace in the Hole - George Strait

 [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkAnOetp2Bs]

This tune is western swing at its finest, beocming Strait's eighteenth #1. This coming year will be his last on the road. His "Cowboy Rides Away" tour is your last chance to see the artist that many consider The King of Country Music. It's sure to be a good show. I've posted Strait's songs before a couple of times, but I was just thinking about the pending retirement of a great performer and wanted to post another, and this is one of my favorites.

I love the way the fiddle, horns, piano, and guitar all hit those licks together in the chorus. Being backed by the solid western swing groove sells it. Plus, George's voice is as smooth as any jazz artist out there, which fits with the style, too. The song is structured perfectly, and there's so much attention to detail. You don't hear a lot of songs released like this today.
