I've only ever posted one other video of Hanson's, and it was a cover tune. As you'll read there, I don't know much of their music at all. However, while I was looking up yesterday's song, having a similar title, "Give a Little Bit," I discovered this song, as well as the one below.
Both songs are a far venture from "MMMBop," the only Hanson tune with which I, and most of the rest of the population, am familiar. That's really a shame, too. We shouldn't judge this band off that one pop-radio hit. They were just kids, and they were probably just doing what they were told, which is the way most people in the business make their name. Once you have your name, you have more freedom to do as you like.
I digress... These two songs are off of the band's 2010 album, Shout It Out. The songs are both horn-infused pop-rock. They're catchy as hell, and they're just good songs. You can talk down about them all you want, but any band that pays tribute to a classic Blues Brothers number - the "Shake Your Tailfeather" scene from 1980's The Blues Brothers - AND includes Weird Al (he's the tambourine player that is supposed to be Murph) is alright in my book.

"Give a Little Bit" is from singer/songwriter Roger Hodgson, co-founder of Supertramp. This is a timeless classic that always brings a smile to my face every time I hear on the radio. Roger is still touring and performing not only Give a Little Bit, but also his other classics such as Breakfast in America, Take the Long Way Home, Dreamer, The Logical Song, and so many more. His show is fantastic and leaves everyone with feel-good feelings that last for weeks. Here is Roger performing his song, "Give a Little Bit" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWhqs-fvLpI.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info, Eleanor! I actually refer to a post I had done the day before this one on the song you mentioned. After you posted I linked to it in the paragraph above, too. I really appreciate the comments! It lets me know somebody's reading!
