This tune was originally written and recorded by Hank Williams in 1951. Since that time, his original recording has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The above is one of many covers recorded over the years. This was one of those songs from back in the "good ol' days" when folks claim songs weren't about sex and drugs...except, this one is about sex. Hhhmmm... I guess you could argue it's about romance and courting a lady, but "how's about cookin' somethin' up with me" seems like a pretty clear metaphor.
This performance was at the 2004 CMA Awards. You'll see Jimmy Buffet, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, and Clint Black. Buffet's version here has a lot of that island groove to it that is the signature of his sound. The original was far more traditional of course. My only complaint about this video is Chesney, who seems confused about when he's supposed to sing. I think it could've been rehearsed better. On the other hand, Keith seems to be a little off, too. Maybe he was hanging out with Willie before the performance and got a little cloudy.
