This is more of a jazz take on the original theme for the movie, but I like the spin. I wrote a pretty extensive review of the movie, and honestly, what kind of turned out to be a piece on Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathhua's comedic chemistry for my movie review today and decided to stick the song from the movie up as today's music post. You should check out the movie review if you've got a second. The theme music was written for the original film that had been adapted from the stage play. The song was written by Neal Hefti, and a variation of it was used for the opening credits of the TV show's theme. It also appears in the movie's sequel, and like a lot of famous instrumental themes, it has lyrics that many people don't even know exist.
While I was looking for this, I came across a clip I had seen before but forgotten about. It's a clip from "The Odd Couple" TV series where Roy Clark makes an appearance. He takes the opportunity to really show of his guitar chops with a performance of Ernesto Lecueno's "Malageña". You can watch that clip below. You can see from the looks on Felix (Tony Randall) and Oscar's (Jack Klugman) expressions how impressed they are with his performance.
