I have posted about the original version of this song in the past. I've been a fan of the tune since I first heard it. If you haven't heard it, I'd strongly suggest giving it a listen for comparison to the above arrangement. While very similar in many respects, they are, obviously, very different. Some of those differences are apparent on their face, but others need a little closer inspection.
We have a traditional rhythm section (i.e. drums, bass, guitar, keyboard) backing a proclaimed "maniacal" trombone quartet. All of the vocal lines and melodies are performed by the brass instruments. It's a good fit to replace the smooth tone and sound of the original vocals. The trombone even takes the guitar solo using a mute and guitar processor for distortion. So, there's the main difference right there.
The other difference I took most note of was the lack of enthusiasm shown by the rhythm section. The brass players are all over it, and you can tell they're enjoying themselves. From the look of the rhythm section, they'd rather be just about anywhere else, though. You can hear that in the music on top of seeing their performances. There's just a lack of energy there, and that makes a big difference.
