Empire State of Mind, Part II - Alicia Keys

I dig the original version of this tune, but I think Keys' vocals are one of the most important pieces of the song's puzzle. Here you get to hear them, the piano, and, toward the end, some backing music, too. Mostly it's a focus on her vocal performance, though. Her vocals are always great, and I like to see them, and her piano skills, receive the focus here.

The song really captures the feelings and vision people have of the city that never sleeps. Whether that vision is a stereotype or not, it's what people think of when it comes to the Big Apple. Having only visited the NYC area for a week once, I don't have a firm grasp of what life there is like, but I can tell you with certainty, life moves at a different pace. One walk through Times Square is all it takes to see that. There are quiet areas of the city, too, though, which I wasn't really expecting. Maybe you can make the comparison of the different areas to the different versions of this song.
