Everything I Own - Bread

Theme: Power of Love

My favorite thing about this is the contrast between the way the verses and choruses sound. It's not like it's a totally different song, but on the other hand, there's way more difference than there is in most songs. This is the original recording, but it was covered by a number of artists, including Olivia Newton-John, Boy George, and Rod Stewart. N'Sync did a cover as well, and you can hear it below. I definitely like the original better, but the harmonies make a nice impact in their version.

It's a pretty straight forward message about what the singer is willing to give up to have his lost love back again. It's ironic that the song doesn't have a sound to it that's necessarily melancholy. The chord structure and feel sound more hopeful than sad. Maybe it's the point at which the narrator has reached a decision to try and move on with his life. You eventually have to reach that point.
