Theme: Power of Love

This song was originally performed by Queen, as a lot of you know, I'm sure. There are rumors floating around that the band wrote the song on a bet from a friend that they couldn't swing. More accurate reports state that Freddy Mercury wrote the song, took it to the studio, and recorded it all in the same day. Having written it on guitar, Mercury played guitar in concert for the first time while playing this song.
The above version was recorded for a Gap commercial. You can listen to the story on that following the performance. Yoakam talks about it with Leno. I like both versions, but the tighter, cleaner sound of Yoakam's gets me a little more. It just grooves a little different. I'd much prefer Brian May's guitar solo, though.
As far as the song's connection to this month's theme, I don't think it needs a lot of explanation. It captures the feeling of love as well as anything else, which, is to say not all that well. As much as every song you hear about love captures it in some way, most people still think, "well, that's almost it, but not quite". It's because everyone experiences these feelings differently.
