Get Ready - Rare Earth

Theme: Power of Love

Sometimes you get shot down and decide to give up on a love interest. Other times you get shot down and it just pushes you to drive that much harder to get the girl/guy you're after. This song is all about waiting and pushing for the girl. There are just people your heart won't let you give up on sometimes. Trust me, don't let opportunities to pursue someone you're interested in pass you by; you'll regret it later way more than you would regret a failed attempt.

I dig the way that the band starts the song, playing around with the chord progression. They then drop hints of the song's main riffs into the mix in a very subtle way. It builds slowly to a full on version of the song. Each member of the group takes a solo later in the song, creating a more than twenty-minute-long version.

The song was written by Smokey Robinson for The Temptations. It only garnered a #29 spot on the charts and performed at a rate less than expected by the label's owner, Barry Gordy. This would be the last song Robison wrote for the group due to a deal between him and Gordy based on the song's performance. The Rare Earth version was also recorded for Motown Records.
