Theme: Power of Love

Honestly, there are a lot of different versions of this song out there, and I kind of think think this one could use a little more, uh, stank on it. I get the feel that Taylor is going for here, and he achieves it in the music. His vocals are just a little square for me. The rest of the performance is exactly what he's after, though. I do like the way he plays with the melody a little, and he has a great voice; it just misses the mark by a little for the style he's performing.
The song was originally written in 1947, and was made popular in the musical Brigadoon. It has also been covered by many different artists, from Ella Fitzgerald to Dean Martin to Rufus Wainwright. One of the more popular versions today is the Nat King Cole version that was used as the closing song in Groundhog Day, and probably the least well-known version is Woody Allen's performance from Antz. Regardless of the performer, the song's lyrics capture pretty well what it's like to be in love.
