Regardless of what you think about Kroeger and his group Nickelback, or any other performer or group, it's just plain stubbornness to write off anything they ever touch due to a dislike you may have for them. With that said, this is a good tune. Plus, it's not Nickelback performing. This is a collaborative supper-group of sorts, featuring Kroeger, Saliva's lead singer Scott, Tyler Connolly of Theory of a Deadman fame, Nickelback bassist Mike Kroeger, and Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron (though you'll see that Jeremy Taggart of Our Lady Peace performed the part in the video).
The song was written directly for the first of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies. The song and movie were both well received by audiences. "Hero" made it to #3 on the Hot 100 charts, as well as #1 on several other Billboard charts. The movie was the third highest-grossing movie of 2002 after finally being developed and released following 25 years in development hell.
