Disney staff songwriters, Robert and Richard Sherman, who were responsible for scores to movies like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins, were called in to add a few lighthearted songs to The Jungle Book after Walt decided he didn't like the darker tone it had taken. What better way to create a lighter tone than with a song about friends sung by four comedic relief characters.
The four vultures were intended to be voiced by the Beatles, but a scheduling conflict kept that idea from coming to fruition. Instead, they were voiced by a collaboration of actors cast by Disney. They still had the Beatles's look and Liverpool accents, though. A capella songs are some of my favorite, so, this barbershop quartet style is obviously one of my favorite Disney classics.
