I'm impressed all around with this video. The drumming is smooth, the stick tricks are tasteful, the cover is different but close enough to the original to be a cover, and Fede looks like he couldn't be enjoying himself more. As far as the song itself, all those people who claim Green Day "sold out" need to realize that they didn't "sell out", they grew up! Their interests changed, as did their taste in music. Get over it. You don't have to listen if you don't want to listen.
"Idiot" was released on the 2004 album of the same name. This, their sevenenth studio album, was originally titled Cigarettes and Valentines, but the master recordings of that project were stolen. Instead of recreating those recordings, the band went a totally differeent direction. Inspired in great part by The Who, Green Day decided to produce a rock opera, that would follow the life of an anti-hero character, Jesus of Suburbia. It was definitely a creative departure from the previous work.
