Don't Stop Believing - Pine Mountain Railroad

I often wonder if the people who write the songs that go on to live in our hearts and minds forever really know if they're writing that kind of a song at the time. I imagine there are plenty of them that have no idea and just think they're writing a song. Sometimes, though, there has to be some small notion that you're writing something more than just lyrics and music. I can't help but think that was the case when this song came to be.

Originally released by Journey in 1981, the song wasn't even a #1 hit in the "Hot 100". It climbed to its top place of #9 the year of its release. On the other hand, since its release, its presence in pop culture has become huge, being used in everything from sporting events to movies to TV shows. It's also the biggest rock song in digital history. It has more paid downloads than any other rock tune...ever. That's impressive.

The version above is by a bluegrass band that knows their stuff.  They know how to work the mic, moving in and out according to who's soloing and singing, and they really put this arrangement together well. The group is a Rural Rhythm Records artist, and you can check them out on their webpage. If you want to hear the original for comparison, check it out below.
