This song is another one of those tunes that takes a depressing concept and turns it into an up-tempo, pop hit. This is all about a girl who's running around on the dude that fell for her. Shouldn't the song that tells us about it be way more somber? Apparently not in the 1960's! It seems like a lot of the tunes from that time felt the need to be happy regardless of content.
Due to the internet's love of seeing the elderly act young being only second to its love of cats, the song saw plenty of play on YouTube when the video below, "Dancing Nana," got over 3 million hits. The video was popular enough to get Nana a visit to Ellen DeGeneres's TV show. My favorite part still has to be the running nonsense lyrics in the background throughout the song...not that I don't enjoy Dancing Nana, though. The background lyrics are a great throwback to Cab Calloway the way I hear them. I wonder what Nana's opinion of G-Eazy's sampling (see last video) of Dion's classic would be. I kind of dig it myself.
