I used to watch American Idol during its first couple of seasons, and one thing the judges always said that I agreed with was that you can't take on a Whitney Houston song unless you can absolutely nail it. Weathers does just that in this video. He even sets it up perfectly with a little story before hand. Weathers leads a blues, funk, rock, and soul band based in Fort Worth, Texas. Though this video is the thing that lead me, and probably a lot of other people, to him, he's got a lot of awesome original music, too.
The band has released four albums. The influence of the crazy fusion of music in Texas can definitely be heard in their sound. The song I've posted below reminds me a lot of a song Stevie Ray Vaughan would've had on an album. It's also got a the shout chorus of syllables like a lot of classic funk tunes. Finally, the bass line underneath reminds me of Motown. I really dig what I've heard, and I'll be looking to more. You can do the same on Weathers' website. You can hear a studio version of "Something Wrong" (see below) on the site, too.
