I don't think people realize how strongly their words and actions can effect others. Watching this video, a lot of people will think a situation like the one represented in the story is rare. That's not the case at all. I'm not saying that this exact chain of events will take place, but a series of events that causes a person to feel like the girl in the video isn't a rarity. This kind of thing isn't uncommon.
I am a firm believer that life really is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it; however, there are a number of formative years where you don't know how to react to things, yet. It's those years where you need help and support to learn those skills. I know several people who had less than supportive parents and got picked on in school, which lead to bad grades and self-isolation from others, which lead to loneliness, which helps lead to depressive feelings...and so on the cycle continues.
By the time this person reaches an age where they should be able to control a lot of things that happen in their life (that 90% reaction rule above), they don't have that control; it's been lost along the way somewhere, and their life never gets turned around like it should. That's my one complaint with the video: the happy ending. Although, it's what we all like to see, it's often not what happens. Some people are fortunate to find the support they need. Others never find it.
Pink manages to capture all of this in her song, and at the same time, send a positive message to people in this situation. As corny as it sounds, we judge people too harshly, especially when we're young. While no one is perfect, everyone can be in the right person's eyes, and our imperfections are what make us that way. So, no matter who you're judging without really knowing them, be sure you stop to think about the effect your actions may have on someone's life.
