I kind of miss the hard rocking sound of Bon Jovi's original, but this is a cool version of this song. Carelle has a great voice, and it fits well with the more acoustic sound. The song fits some big decisions I'm making in my life, right now. I think most people could (should?) apply this way of thinking to their life more often. How much is taking that extra sick day really going to matter? Will it matter more than the memories you'll make while you play hooky? Should you decorate your house based on what a magazine tells you? Would you rather live in a home you made your own based on your own tastes? It's your life; live it that way.
The song was co-written by Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, and songwriter Max Martin. I've written about Jon and Richie before, but this is a first mention of Martin. He's a songwriter that has over fifty-one top ten hits in the US, with groups like The Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Usher, Katy Perry, and Pink. If you've listened to the radio in the last couple decades, you're sure to have heard more than a few of his songs, even if it was only in a department store somewhere. While I'm more than happy that someone finds such success in songwriting, it does put into perspective how much some songs on the radio sound alike.
