The harmonies in the original cut of this tune are a little stronger and more prominent, and that's one of my favorite parts of this or any other Alabama song. I think Johnson's take on the tune is good, though, and you can still hear those harmonies here, too. It's different enough to be his own, while still holding onto the original feel and groove. Plus, you do get the guys from Alabama singing on the cut.
This is the song that is oft credited with being the track that set the band's rise to superstardom in motion. It's an autobiographical account of the band's early years. It's a very smooth tune, and I think Johnson does it justice. It also has begun to mean something more to me now that I'm living away from my home, even though it's not Alabama. I still think about home a lot, so much so that I walk out of work sometimes picturing the drive back to Wayne, WV before I remember that I live in Florida now.
