There's been a lot of controversy lately surrounding a new song on the country charts, "My Kinda Night" by Luke Bryan. I'm not a fan of the song, and I typically agree with most of the negative comments about the song. I tend to side with Zac Brown when he declares his hatred of the song but sings the praises of its performer. I've liked a lot of Bryan's other stuff. Even though I can't agree that it's the worst, or even one of the worst, songs ever, it is pretty bad. Anyway, instead of focusing on that feud, I thought I'd go back a few years to a similar situation...
"Achy Breaky" was originally recorded by The Marcy Brothers and titled "Don't Tell My Heart". When released by Cyrus as his debut single, it became a huge hit and skyrocketed him to superstar. It was not only #1 on the Country Singles Charts, but it was also #4 on the Hot 100. It was a crossover hit, and you couldn't go anywhere without hearing it. As big of a hit as it was, there were those who weren't fans of the song, or Cyrus. One notable naysayer was country star Travis Tritt.
Tritt was a strong critic against Cyrus' success and the success of his pop-crossover hit. He made several comments on the subject, possibly most notably saying that he didn't want to see country music turned into an ass-shaking competition. Cyrus got his chance at rebuttal , and he took it (see below). There will always be feuds in the music industry, and the comments recently made are just a small drop in the bucket.
