This song was on the radio some when I was a kid, but it was released well before my time. A local station played a lot of this kind of stuff in the mornings back then. When I was watching Kevin Costner's The Postman, I heard it again, and my interest in the song was renewed. This tune is just really catchy. The drum beat that leads it in is infectious. It's not a great masterpiece as far as masterpieces are concerned, but I really dig it. There were several versions of this on YouTube that showed the band, but they weren't what I had pictured and it scared me. So, I chose this version instead.
Redbone is made up of Native American and Mexican American members. This song was the group's one big hit, their only one to make the Hot 100. It did make quite an impression on the chart, though, hitting #5. The version above is the one that gets the radio airplay, but there is an extended version out there, too. The scene below is the one from The Postman that contains the song.
