Heart's Desire - Lee Roy Parnell

The third and final artist from the collaboration post from a few days ago is Lee Roy Parnell. Parnell is another really underrated artist, and at this point, he has almost all but disappeared from the music industry altogether. It's really a shame, because he had some really good music that just wasn't ever quite mainstream enough to put him in the spotlight. This song is an example of one of his few top ten hits.

This is a great song about longing for what you don't have. It's got a great bass line that really keeps the groove rolling. It also has such a great slide part. Parnell (as I mentioned before) is one of the masters of slide guitar, and he really lives up to it on this track.

Update (May 22, 2011): I received an e-mail today from an official representative of LRP (Lee Roy Parnell) Inc. The representative very politely informed me of Parnell's ongoing projects and shed some light on recent activity of which I was unaware. It would appear that he has not drifted as far from the music industry's tree as I had believed. He is still a hit songwriter, music producer, co-owner of a publishing company, and was recently awarded the honor of being inducted into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also endorses Gibson Guitars and has a signature Lee Roy Parnell guitar currently in design phase.

My original statement was only intended to cover his lack of new music releases, but I was thrilled to be contacted by someone representing one of the artists I have written about and listened to for many years. It really means something to see that people are actually paying attention.
