Every Time I Roll the Dice - Delbert McClinton

This is a really catchy blues number. McClinton has a really great voice for this style, raspy but clean at the same time. The slide guitar player is on top of it here, too. The horn parts are pretty simple, but it all fits together in a tight configuration. My first experience with the song was as a cover in a band I played with when I first started playing gigs. That version we put together will always be my favorite, but this one rocks, too.

McClinton has had a successful career since acting as a side-man, starting in 1962. He's had several singles on the Hot 100 list. He's been inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame. He's got more than two dozen albums to his credit. He plays guitar, harmonica, and piano. He's just an all around great performer. Take a minute to enjoy this tune and look for more once you've discovered you like it.
