Not originally recorded by Sinatra, this song wasn't popular until he recorded and released it. It was originally recorded and performed by Liza Minnelli - they occasionally performed the tune as a duet together - for the Martin Scorsese film of the same name. The original song concluded with the line "come on come through, New York, New York," but Sinatra's version made a little change, "it's up to you," which I think everyone remembers.
The Sinatra single would reach #32 on the charts in 1980, making it his last top 40 hit. The song has become a staple of the celebration of its titular city. Old Blue Eyes was getting up there in years when this was recorded, BUT you and I will never know cool like Frankie did, even in those late years.
