This is my first repeated artist, and I really debated on whether or not I wanted to do duplicate already, but I just can't let this song go by without posting it. It's a great way to show the respect Paisley has for the music he grew up with. I also love the fact that Alabama came in to shoot the video and appear on the recording. The whole thing is a great tribute to a great band. I mean, when you can release a two-disc album of number one hits and still have dozens of other GREAT songs, that says something about your music, and Alabama did just that with their album For the Record.
Paisley released the song as the second single from his album This Is Country Music. After considering just using a sample of Alabama's song "Mountain Music" for a new song and deciding against it, Paisley invited Randy Owen, Jeff Cook, and Teddy Gentry, the founding members of Alabama, into the studio to record part of the song for Paisley's use. They agreed, and then, Paisley, Owen, Dave Turnbull, and Chris DuBois wrote Old Alabama. The song is littered with references to Alabama's songs, particularly in the chorus. The bridge to "Mountain Music" can be heard toward the end of the song, performed the same way the band recorded it on their original version.
