Radar Love - White Lion

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pk2U41uvOlI]

A slightly heavier cover of the original Golden Earring song, this tune is all about the timing and guitar solo. The drums and bass drive the song, but it's a pretty simple groove to lay down as long as the drummer and bass player are willing to lay back and keep things simple. I've played this song with bass players who could do just that, and I've played with bass players who played way too much, making the song never come together quite right.

The song is about a guy driving to his girl, who somehow manages to communicate with her without using a telephone or letters or...well, anything. That's where we get the term "radar love", referring to the connection he has with his lover. The tune has been covered several times, but no one has taken it to the success level that Golden Earring saw. The Dutch band's version landed at #13 on the Hot 100. White Lion's version came the closest to that, but it only made it to #59.
