This song was orginially recorded by Owens and later by The Beatles. I prefer the Owens track myself, but when you put Owens and one of the fab four together in a comedic video playing against each other, it comes off pretty well. The song itself is great. It's very clever, and I like that a lot in music. Some people take music too seriously, and it's cool to see some people having fun with it.
The song was written by Johnny Russell. He's best known for this song, but has written songs recorded by Burl Ives, Jerry Garcia, Dolly Parton, and others. He was asked to come and sit in on a recording session in L.A. one night, and to accept the gig, he had to break plans with his girlfriend. She asked why he was going to L.A., and he told her that "they're gonna put me in the movies and make a big star out of me". The song soon followed, but, because no one thought it would be a hit, including his own producer, it would be two years before the song was cut and released.
