Wicked Game - Chris Isaak

This song is very haunting, and I like that a lot when it's done properly. It is in this song. Isaak's voice is perfect to convey the emotion he's trying to pull from you. This is a live recording done on a sound stage, and I think it sounds great. The line that echoes behind him in the chorus ("this world is only gonna break your heart") is the perfect touch for completing the song. As much as I love the original, there have been a few covers of this song that were pretty good, and I've posted a couple of my favorites below.

I've talked about the importance of music in movies in the past, but hat is usually about how important the music is to the film. This time, it worked out the other way around. Isaak released the song in 1989 on his album Heart Shaped World. It wasn't until two years later that it took off as a hit. The song was used in the movie Wild at Heart, a David Lynch film. A radio DJ in Atlanta, who was a fan of Lynch's, heard the song in the film and began playing it in regular rotation. In January of '91, the song made a climb to the #6 spot on the Hot 100.
