Be Yourself - Audioslave

"Be Yourself" was the first single from the group's second album, Out of Exile and is considered one of the bands best known songs, still getting airplay today, six years after its release. This song and its album proved that the band could find its own sound and not just be a mashup of its members' former groups, Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden. Lead singer Chris Cornell came from the latter, and the rest of the group were all previous members of Rage. Critics and fans alike found that the sound the band created, which was all done with just vocals, drums, guitar, and bass, was something they could really sink their proverbial teeth in to.

The song was inspired by Cornell's age and maturity when it comes right down to it. He says that it has a lot to do with "different changes and all the different tragedies and all the horrendously stupid mistakes" he made in his personal life. I think that's something we can all relate to as we get older, and it's nice when you finally reach that point when you just go, "wow, I just want to be myself and not worry what other people think about it" and live your life the way you see fit.
