(This Ain't) No Thinking Thing - Trace Adkins

Early in his career, Adkins' music had a lot more serious tone. Lately, hits like "Ladies Love Country Boys", "Hot Mama" and "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" have dealt with light subject matter in pop-country party hits. That's not to say those are bad songs, but some of earlier music that is a little more complex and in which the meaning runs a little deeper, I find more enjoyment. This song deals with matters of the heart, and how the brain can sometimes get in the way of those matters. Sometimes you just need to not think about it. You should just do what you feel. I could personally use a little more of that way of dealing with things in my life.

Adkins voice is what really makes his music stand out.  That baritone is not something that's very commonplace today, and when he first started it wasn't at all commonplace. It's such a strong baritone, too. That's what makes the difference. I really like the live performance above. I had to update this blog's video from the one I originally posted; it got deleted. This version sees a little bit of a sixteenth note bounce in it, and Adkins plays with the melody a bit, too. It's not all that different from the original, but the changes do make it a bit more interesting.
