Halloween Theme - John Carpenter

I was very surprised to learn that Carpenter was the composer on this. Being a movie addict, I know a lot about movies, and quite often, my addiction to music crosses over for some interesting tidbits of information. I did not, however, know that Carpenter has been the composer for several films. His composition credits include Escape from New York, Ghosts of Mars, Assault on Precinct 13 (1979), and several others, many of which he also acted as either writer, director, producer, actor, or a combination of several of those duties.

The song is in a strange time signature, 10/8, which to me is just a 5/4 meter. Carpenter admits to not knowing anything about composition or theory but says that he can play any keyboard instrument. He not only wrote the classic theme song but recorded it, too, billing himself as the Bowling Green Philharmonic Orchestra in the credits. The name Bowling Green probably comes from the town of Bowling Green, KY, Carpenter having picked up on the name when he spent time at Western Kentucky University.
