Cheap Sunglasses - ZZ Top

This, for me, encompasses more of the blues rock side of the band's sound than most of their other extremely popular hits. The repetitious riffs and stops to allow for the end of vocal lines are both big characteristics of blues music. It also wasn't until a recent listen that I realized how much like "Frankenstein" one piece of this song sounds. If you listen to the two, you're sure to know what I'm talking about. The song is pretty simple in its message: wear cheap sunglasses to help with your hangover and dealing with the world.

The song was written by the group while they were still traveling by car in their early days. Reportedly, they would go through several pairs on a weekly basis, even throwing them out into the crowd at their shows. "Cheap Sunglasses" appeared on several of the group's albums, including its first appearance on 1979's Degüello. It only made it to #89 on the Hot 100 the next year, but it has become a staple of the band's performances.
