Like most of his hits, this song was co-written by Elton John and his long-time, lyricist collaborator, Bernie Taupin. It was a #1 on the Christmas Singles chart, and it has since become a Christmas classic. Released as a stand-alone single in 1973, "Step into Christmas" wouldn't be included on an album until 1990 when it became a part of the box set, To Be Continued... The track has a unique sound that was intended to mimic that of Phil Spector's classic "wall of sound" technique.
