I guess I should have said on the first post I wrote about this group: this group was originally formed at Indiana University. It is also the name of the university's amateur college group composed of grad students. The professional group is mainly built around founding members of the group from 1996. This is the professional group, and this is the song that led to a five-album record deal with Atlantic records.
The song itself has been around since 1780, when it originated as a chant. Believed to be of French origin, the song we know today began as a 1909 arrangement set to music. Frederic Austin, who set it to music, was the arranger to set the "five gold rings" lyrics to a different rhythmic pattern than the rest of the song.
