I guess this is technically disco, and if that's the case, it's one of the few disco tunes you'll find on this blog. I'm not a disco fan in the least; however, I dig this song for some reason. I think it has a lot to do with that bari sax riff that takes off right at the beginning of the song. It's also a good, fun bouncy feel. I tend to use this song at weddings a lot when I DJ, and I always see lots of people bouncing their heads. That's a good sign that I can get them up and dancing after a couple more songs if I pick the right ones.
The song heavily features a sample from a song by The Javells, "Goodbye, Nothing to Say." If you listen to the song (below), you can hear the sample for sure, and there was a lot of influence taken from the melody, too. I still think that Pierre Tubbs and J. Vincent Edwards, the writers of Gayle's song, improved on the idea. After listening closely to The Javells's song, I'm sure that the bari sax part, which is not included in their original, is a big part of why I like Gayle's song.
