Judy in Disguise - John Fred & His Playboy Band

Extended from Brian's List

If I had ever heard this song before recently, I don't remember it. Fred and band mate Andrew Bernard rote the song over some confusion Fred had about a Beatles' song. He misheard the lyrics of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" as "Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds". This song was written out of his disappoint upon discovering his mistake. It ironically went on to knock The Beatles' song "Hello, Goodbye" off the Billboard #1 spot for two weeks in 1968.

Fred was offered a big break when he was only fifteen. Dick Clark asked him to appear on American Bandstand, but Fred declined...for a basketball game. He was on the team at Louisiana State University and didn't want to miss the game. I'm telling you right now that the team would've been a man short had that offer been made to me.
