What happened to the times when songs just came out and told you what they were really about in the lyrics. Susie has managed to miss her curfew, and she and her boyfriend are worried about their reputation and how upset her mom is going to be. There's no guess work there. They even tell it to you with great harmonies and a simple arrangement.
The song managed to climbed to the #1 spot on the Pop and Country charts, despite its, at the time, controversial, suggestive lyrics. It was actually banned in the Boston market based on its lyrical content. I think we can all agree that lyrics have gotten progressively more suggestive over time.
