Can we all say "over produced". Above is the latest of the takes of this song. Below, you can can find the band's original recording. Apparently, after being picked up by a label, the group rerecord a more radio-friendly version of the song. The original cut had a screamo moment in it. Now, if you're a regular reader of this blog, you'll know that I'm not a fan of screamo; however, I'm not a fan of a label changing the creative choices of the artist either. I actually prefer the screamo version, believe it or not. Hearing the two different versions of this song - and it's not the only one out there, there are thousands - makes me wonder what would have become of a group like The Beatles had they had their creativity stifled by a label.
"Face Down" holds a record, tied with "The Kill" by 30 Second to Mars, for longest-running single on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. Both songs, despite not climbing to the #1 spot, held a posiiton on the chart for fifty-two weeks, the equivilent of a whole year. Including the versions in this post, there are four versions of the song altogether. The radio version above, landed the #25 spot on the Hot 100.
