Tutti Frutti - Little Richard

Wow! It is impossible to find a posting of this song that has the rights set to use it in this blog that is a good version of the tune. This will have to do. It's actually the original recording Richard did I think, but it's really, really obvious that the band on screen is not really playing the music. Richard's hands aren't even moving in time with what you're hearing the piano do. Of course, that was the way of things in that era. The technology just wasn't there, I guess, or they people in charge just decided that the people watching would never know the difference. I digress...

The opening line is actual a vocal line meant to imitate a drum beat Richard heard in his head. The actual original lyrics were quite a bit dirtier. They were lyrics Richard had created while playing the song in clubs across the country. The producer on the record wanted to do the song, but realized the lyrics would have to be tamed down some to get any airplay. I'll let you Google that if you really want to know what they were.

My first introduction to this song was very early on in my life. The song is played in a movie that I must have watched a hundred when I was growing up, The Brave Little Toaster. The song stuck with me from that point, and it's become one of my favorite oldies.
