Boys of Summer - The Ataris

 [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taByJB4obIc]

Originally a Don Henley tune, this is a pretty drastic change in style for the song. The form pretty much stays the same, though, and the band plays the song pretty much exactly the same way every time they perform it. It's almost too mechanical, but it sounds good. Note: The live version I originally had posted is no longer available.

The song is about the passing of youth and innocence in a way. It's also about learning that sometimes you can destroy your own relationships based solely off of the feeling of restlessness or the need/desire for something different. Often times, you find the thing you thought you wanted isn't that great after all. So is life, I guess.

Henley has always been one of those great song writers, especially when paired with his counterparts in The Eagles. Vince Gill commented on the band at the 2007 CMAs, saying that they have been writing songs we all wished we could write for years. That's paraphrased because I can't find the exact quote, but that's a big compliment regardless.
