Go Rest High on That Mountain - Vince Gill

Gill finished writing this song for his brother after he passed away, having started writing it after the passing of country star Keith Whitley, hence the "no stranger to the rain" line. It's a very pretty song, and you can tell it means a lot to Gill when he sings it. It's by far one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. It's not just the lyrics, though; it's the music that gets me, too.

The song received several awards, including a BMI award, a CMA award, and two Grammy Awards. It only made a climb to #14 on the charts, but it's a much better song than the charts would indicate in my opinion. I found a good live version to post above, but I'm going to put the studio version below. It's just that much better with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless singing the backing vocals on the original recording.
