Summer in the City - The Lovin' Spoonful

 [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1_8909dNJ0]

If you could describe summer in one word, what would it be? How about "hot"? It most definitely is in my area. It's hard to think of a word that better describes the season. It applies no only to the temperature, but it describes how you feel in the summer. Of course, I can't say much about summer in the city, but in the country that's how it is.

The song was written by a Mark Sebastian, brother of the founder of the group, John Sebastian. He had originally submitted what would become the lyrics as a poem. The poem was submitted to Blair Academy's literary magazine. John changed the words for the song a bit. The group's bass player was the last piece of the puzzle adding the break in the middle of the song where you hear car horns and other sounds of summer in the city.
