This guitar riff is one of the catchiest ones I've ever heard. It's also one of the simplest ones. That speaks a lot to music in general I think. Often times some of the most popular songs get to be that way because they're simple and catchy. Don't get me wrong, you'll always have your "Bohemian Rhapsody", but you'll also have ten "Simple Man" type songs for every one of those.
The song was written by Jackson and Pierre Tubbs and originally recorded by Jackson in 1966. An excellent cover of the song was released in 1994 by Huey Lewis and the News. It appeared on an album that has, in my opinion, one of the best album titles ever: Four Chords and Several Years Ago. I've posted Huey's cover below.
