Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson

I first really listened to this song when playing Guitar Hero III. I'm sure I'd heard it before then, but that's when I first really listened. I'm not a huge, huge fan of instrumental rock, but the melody of this song after it settles into the regular time signature is extremely catchy. I like the shuffle groove of the tune and the way that Johnson plays with the melody throughout the song. He has a very distinct tone on the guitar, too, created by specific combination of equipment used.

Johnson is a multi-instrumentalist, skilled on bass guitar, electric guitar, resonator, lap steel, acoustic guitar, and piano. His styles range from fusion to new-age to country, and all those styles show up throughout his live performances and studio recordings. "Cliffs of Dover" won Johnson the 1991 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
