This one is all about becoming a star. Although, I don't think, no, I know, it's not as easy as the song makes it sound. I'm pretty sure that Hank would agree with me there. There are some people who stumble into fame by some chance of being in the right place at the right time, and there are some people whose family has money that buys there way into fame. For most people who "make it", it's a hard road to the top. It used to be anyway. With the internet and digital media, almost anyone can become and overnight star nowadays.
Hank's song is also about being asked to do something other than what you're trying to do. In the song, the protagonist is offered a movie deal and accepts, because "his mama didn't raise no fool", but he tells the man that he was "born to boogie". This is a pretty frequent topic of discussion with entertainers in general, but specifically you hear it from comedians a lot. People work their entire careers to become the best they can at stand-up comedy, only to be asked to act in movies and TV shows. The song is really a reflection of how crazy the entertainment industry can be sometimes.
